With Path of Exile 3.27 Keepers of the Flame right around the corner, the community is buzzing with excitement — and uncertainty — about how Breach 2 will play out. As always, I’ve put together my League Starter Tier List, but this time I’m ranking builds based not just on general early-league strength, but specifically on how I think they’ll perform in Breach 2 content on a league-start budget.
That means I’m assuming the new Breach encounters will not be a pushover. The monsters look bulkier, deadlier, and more punishing than before — likely not something a squishy build can just melt through on day one. With that in mind, I’m prioritizing survivability, budget power, and comfort when ranking these builds. Let’s dive in.
S-Tier: The Best of the Best for Breach 2
Earthshatter Berserker / Bleed Slam Slayer
Slams continue to reign supreme as the best all-around league starters, and nothing changes in 3.27. They’re tanky, hit hard, and scale incredibly well on a budget thanks to easy-to-craft two-handers and power-packed ascendancies.
Earthshatter Berserker remains a monster for those who don’t mind some button pressing with warcries. It’s fast, reliable, and has amazing single-target potential. If you want something slightly less intense, Bleed Slam Slayer offers an easier rotation with a massive AoE and comfy gameplay. It’s perfect for players who prefer a more laid-back, DoT-based approach while still packing enough power to crush Breach bosses.
In short, these are the builds to beat for Breach 2.
A+ Tier: Top Performers with Slight Caveats
Kinetic Blast Deadeye
If Breach 2 ends up being easy, this jumps straight into S-Tier. Kinetic Blast Deadeye is one of the fastest mappers in the game and absolutely shreds open layouts. It’s a bit squishy early, but the damage and speed more than make up for it if you know what you’re doing. If the monsters are overtuned, you’ll just have to play carefully — but if not, this will be one of the best builds in 3.27.
Poison Concoction / Poison Penance Brand / Mamba
Poison builds are as consistent as ever. Poison Concoction remains one of the most comfortable league starters thanks to its cheap setup and high ceiling. It also transitions naturally into stronger poison builds like Mamba or Poison Penance Brand once you have Path of Exile currency.
Players like Crouching_Tuna are even league-starting Mamba from the campaign this time, and it looks very solid. If you enjoy scalable poison builds with solid bossing potential, this is an excellent route.
Corrupting Fever Kinetic Blast Elementalist
This is the definition of “comfy farming.” With 75/75 block, suppression, and a huge energy shield pool, this build is deceptively tanky while clearing well with Kinetic Blast. The only potential drawback is if Breach monsters turn out to be very tanky, as your clear might slow down early on. Still, for safe mapping and smooth progression, it’s a top-tier pick.
A Tier: Reliable, Fun, and Still Powerful
Hit-Based Viper Strike (Mamba)
Ruthless’ new Viper Strike Mamba setup replaces last league’s Smite build, and it’s looking much stronger. The AoE is smaller, but the single-target damage is much better — a great tradeoff for Breach encounters. It scales easily, feels smooth, and even TaiTaiKiller might run it in this league, which says a lot.
Exsanguinate Mines Trickster
Still one of the best mappers in the game. It obliterates entire screens from off-screen, making it perfect for content like T16.5 memory maps and Breach farming. It’s also solid for bossing once you invest a bit. FearlessDumbo’s version of the build remains a great reference point — amazing for players who like fast-paced yet tactical gameplay.
Lightning Arrow / Elemental Hit Deadeye
Classic map-blasting builds. Fast, flashy, and effective, but still glassy. If you’re comfortable dodging Breach projectiles and positioning carefully, these will carry you through early maps with ease.
Poison Animate Weapon
This is likely the strongest minion build for Breach 2. It’s fast, powerful, and scales well without expensive gear. The poison stacking plays perfectly into dense Breach fights, and it’s endorsed by experienced minion players as one of the best openers of 3.27.
Holy Relic Guardian
A returning favorite that got some buffs this league, making early progression smoother. It takes a bit of setup to get rolling, but it becomes incredibly strong once established. Baylor Mage’s version remains the go-to guide here — super tanky, reliable, and excellent for league start survival.
Power Siphon of Archmage Totems
Totem enjoyers rejoice. Power Siphon Archmage Totems deliver great Breach-clearing ability with solid single-target power. It may not hit as hard as Storm Burst or Pizza Totems, but for Breach-style encounters with spread-out enemies, this totem setup shines. Expect ~8–10 million DPS on a moderate budget — great numbers for day one.
B+ Tier: Solid but More Specialized
Explosive Arrow Ballista
Still good, but the early-game nerf hurts. It’s slower to ramp than before, but with investment, it remains a reliable performer for those who enjoy totem playstyles.
Bleed Retaliate Gladiator
Built for comfort and tankiness. The damage takes time to ramp, but once geared, it hits 20–30 million DPS and barely dies. Perfect for players who value safety over speed. Garatha’s version is highly recommended if you want a defensive yet powerful melee playstyle.
Flicker Strike Champion
MageFist’s signature build returns with new tech this league, including Bloodlines ascendancy interaction. It’s as chaotic and flashy as ever — not for everyone, but if you’re a Flicker addict, this is your home.
Archmage Ice Nova
Still one of the strongest scaling builds in the game despite a nerf. It’s clunky and requires setup, but when it gets going, it melts everything. I’d put it higher, but it’s not beginner-friendly and can be mechanically awkward. Expect incredible returns if you invest some divines, though.
B Tier and Below: Functional but Risky
I haven’t updated most of these yet, but they include older builds from 3.26 that haven’t seen major buffs. Among them, Righteous Fire Chieftain remains a timeless, dependable option. It might struggle a bit in tougher Breach content, but Pox’s legendary guide ensures you’ll always have support and answers as you progress.
If Breach 2 turns out to be easier than expected, some of these “lower-tier” builds might surprise everyone — but if it’s genuinely tough, expect them to lag early on.
Final Thoughts
Path of Exile 3.27 is shaping up to be one of the most exciting league starts in recent memory, with Breach 2 bringing both nostalgia and challenge.
If you want to play it safe and strong from day one, Earthshatter Berserker, Bleed Slam Slayer, or Poison Concoction are your best bets. If you’re chasing speed, Kinetic Blast Deadeye and Exsanguinate Mines are unmatched — provided you can stay alive.
Whatever you choose, make sure to enjoy the process, experiment with the new mechanics, and remember: league start is all about adaptability. Breach 2 might be tough, but with the right build, you’ll crush it.
